Mini Shopify Service Upsells for Web Designers

As a web designer, a great way to get repeat clients and boost your income is to offer mini-services. Mini services are easily repeatable and clients get a quick but valuable service.

Mini Shopify Service Upsells for Web Designers

In addition to having full website redesign packages, it’s nice to be able to offer smaller packages to repeat clients so they can incrementally spruce up their store. These packages can boost your monthly income without needing to plan far in advance to make them fit into your schedule. I personally offer mini services during my full website projects which means clients can get booked in straight away, and I get a nice pay bump. You can also offer mini services as add-ons to full website packages.

Our favourite part of mini services is that all of them are easily repeatable and can be done in just a few hours. Meaning that you can get everything done quickly without back and forth emailing over several weeks, which other projects can require. These first few mini-services also don’t require you to learn any additional skills, like copywriting, email marketing, or ads like other mini-services might do. These are all Shopify specific services, most likely using skills you already have!

Here are some of our favorite mini-services that Shopify web designers can offer their clients with ease.

1. Shopify Links Page Setup

What is it?
Set your client up with a Links page that they can share in their social media bio. For example, ours is located at lunatemplates.co/links and we keep it up to date with current promotions and our newest products. Having a links page on your own domain has huge SEO benefits, because third-party services aren’t taking the traffic of people who click on your link. Plus, when customers are already on your site, they’re more likely to stay and browse. For more information on the SEO benefits of a self-hosted links page, read How Linktree Harms Your Brand & The Best Alternative.

Time commitment
1 hour to set up + some admin and communication with the client.

Money breakdown:
Service fee to client: $250 per links page setup

One-time cost of template: $200 (unlimited license)

The template cost pays off with one client, and you can repeat an unlimited amount of times!

2. Shoppable Shopify Blog

What is it?
Who says Shopify blogs have to be boring? Completely revamp your client's blog posts with a beautiful blog article template complete with a custom hero section template, CSS styling code snippets, easily embeddable products, collections and newsletter forms, and even a bonus sidebar. All of this is included in our Shoppable Blog Posts templates and step-by-step training. With shoppable products, your client’s blog can work harder for them and actually make them sales! If you're unsure about how blogging can bring your client's business more sales, read Why E-Commerce Brands Should be Blogging on Shopify.

Time commitment
Up to 4 hours including some admin and communication with the client.

Money breakdown:
Service fee to client: $500 (or your half-day rate)

One-time cost of template: $250 (unlimited license)

The template cost pays off with one client, and you can repeat an unlimited amount of times!

3. Shopify Store Setup Audit

What is it?
Your client has built their Shopify website themselves, but they've missed several important steps that a web designer would have covered had they chosen to work with one. Provide a quick audit by going through our Shopify Store Launch checklist to provide a list of recommendations to the client of what actions they should take to get their store up to a good standard.

Time commitment
Up to 4 hours including some admin and communication with the client.

Money breakdown:
Service fee to client: $500 (or your half-day rate)

One-time cost of Launch Kit: $97 (unlimited license)

The template cost pays off with one client, and you can repeat an unlimited amount of times!

4. VIP Days

What is it?
Clients can book your time for a half day or full day. During this time, a list of their website needs are completed all at once. They can get a ton of things off their to-do list all in one afternoon, without back and forth emailing over weeks to get it right.  Some of the things you can offer during this booked time are:

  • A mini makeover implementing new pages and section designs
  • Configuring extra apps (subscriptions, bundles, loyalty programs, wholesale)
  • Adding new theme features
  • Fixing a list of bugs or customer concerns

Time commitment
4-10 hours including admin and communication with the client.

Money breakdown:
Service fee to client: $400-$2500 depending on your rates

One-time cost of Design Freedom on Shopify: $1397 - $2797 (depending on the Track selected)

Taking our Shopify course for designers to feel confident and supported for all your Shopify projects. The course will quickly pay itself off and the knowledge is with you forever!

Other web designer package upsells

There are other more general upsells that you could do as a web designer, however they may require additional specialized skills. These include:

Store Audits: There are several types of audits you could provide. Above we described a store setup audit, but audits can have different focuses, for example: design audit, conversion rate optimization (CRO) audit, user experience audit, and technical SEO audit.

Copywriting: Write engaging copy for their website pages and products that speaks to their target audience.

Technical SEO: Go beyond basic SEO implementation, and offer a full technical SEO service complete with keyword research and optimizing copy, metadata and alt text.

Email marketing: Set your client up with all the email flows they need for their ecommerce business, starting with a welcome discount code and 3-part welcome series when customers join the newsletter.

Paid Ads: Increase sales using paid ads on Meta, Pinterest or other platforms. In some cases, customers can shop directly from these social media channels.

How to Offer Mini-Services to Clients

Start by listing your mini-services or add-ons on your website so that potential clients can see them. For past clients, you could consider sending them a friendly email. Something like:

Hi Name,

I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know I have a few new mini Shopify service offerings created to help elevate your store's website in just one day.

These are the ones I think you could benefit from:
  • Service 1: Add a description and why you think it makes sense for them or aligns with their business goals.
  • Service 2: Add a description and why you think it makes sense for them or aligns with their business goals.
If either of these interest you, let me know and I can provide you with more details. Or if there's anything else you had on your mind about your website that you'd like to discuss, feel free to book a call with me here!

Hopefully this has given you some inspiration for how you can use upsells to increase your income and encourage repeat business, while providing clients with added value that will increase conversions on their store!
